ITALY: PM Giorgia Meloni: ‘No room for Sharia law in Italy’

BKW (18.12.2023) – Giorgia Meloni has served as Prime Minister of Italy for a year, and she has never shied away from expressing her strong views. Her party, Brothers of Italy (Fratelli d’Italia), also holds clear stances on these issues.

With her engaging charisma, Meloni has gradually advanced her career in politics. Her recent remarks are consistent with her past perspectives, indicating that she has remained steadfast in her path. Her political journey began at the tender age of 15 when she joined the Youth Front, a group deemed a direct successor to Italian historical fascism and Mussolini’s ideals.

Over time, Meloni became the leader of a right-wing youth organization. In 2008, during Silvio Berlusconi’s administration, she assumed the role of head of the Ministry of Youth Affairs.

Resurfacing anti-Islamic recording of the Italian Prime Minister

The leader of the Brothers of Italy endeavors to protect Italians from potentially harmful foreign influences and the threats that immigrants may pose to Italy.

This video of Meloni expressing her views has been circulating for quite some time, but it has only recently been leaked online and is now drawing attention internationally, even in Asia. India Today highlighted the speech contained in the recorded footage without disclosing the source of the video.

In the video, Meloni argues that Islam is incompatible with European values and would not find a place in Europe. She firmly maintains that there will be no tolerance for Sharia law in Italy — a law that tightly governs the lives of its main followers, advocating severe punishments such as the death penalty for adultery, the execution of those who engage in homosexual activities, and mutilation for acts of theft.

Meloni also took the opportunity to criticize Saudi Arabia for applying this law. “I am aware that most Islamic cultural centers in Italy are funded by this country,” she stated in the recording.

“I think we need to discuss the issue of Islam in Europe. An Islamization process is happening here that contradicts our civilization’s values,” she continued.

This video was released to the public at quite an opportune moment. It resurfaced after the Brothers of Italy organized a political festival in Rome on December 16th. The event was attended by British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, who is of Indian descent.
