QATAR: Baha’is welcome the acquittal of Qatari Baha’i Remy Rowhani

Bic (01.10.2025) – Remy Rowhani, a Qatari Baha’i dignitary detained in April and sentenced to a five-year prison term in August, has been acquitted by an appeals court of the charges against him. The Baha’i International Community (BIC) welcomes this news and looks forward to his release.

“We are glad that Remy Rowhani, a distinguished Qatari Baha’i with a long record of honorable public service, will soon be freed from prison and that the wrongful conviction against him has been overturned,” said Saba Haddad, BIC Representative to the United Nations in Geneva. “And we are relieved that the Qatari justice system has reversed the misunderstandings of earlier court hearings. Justice has prevailed.”

The Baha’i International Community wishes to convey its appreciation to His Highness the Emir of Qatar, and the country’s judiciary, for this positive development.

“The Arab Region has seen progress in coexistence and diversity over the past several years,” Dr. Haddad said, “and Baha’i communities in Qatar and across the region are loyal citizens who are dedicated to serving their countries. We hope that Remy Rowhani’s freedom signals more such progress in Qatar in the future.”
