IHRD (10.06.2025) – “On 3 June 2025, we presented the 2025 Annual Ahmadi Persecution Report at the European Parliament in Brussels.

The event was hosted by MEPs Hilde Vautmans and Bernard Guetta (Renew Europe) and brought together lawmakers, EEAS officials, European civil servants and representatives from international NGOs.

Usman Ahmad of the International Human Rights Desk outlined key findings from the report, documenting a sharp escalation in anti-Ahmadi measures over the past year. He highlighted the closure and demolition of Ahmadi mosques, the state-backed desecration of graves, and the routine denial of burial rights. He also drew attention to the events surrounding Eid-ul-Adha 2024, during which dozens of Ahmadis were pre-emptively detained. Meat was confiscated from Ahmadi households and individuals were barred from offering the Eidprayers.

Speakers at the event included

Pakistani journalist and researcher Rabia Mehmood, who discussed the radicalising influence of Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan and its impact on Pakistan’s religious landscape;

Jonathan de Leyser of Christian Solidarity Worldwide (CSW), who addressed Pakistan’s human rights obligations under international law and the EU’s role in enforcement;

Willy Fautré, Director of Human Rights Without Frontiers, who spoke on the migration consequences of this persecution and the need for greater awareness of Ahmadi asylum cases in Europe.

We are grateful to all who attended and contributed to the discussion.”
